Tall or short, fast or not-so-fast, big or little, girl or boy – have fun playing co-ed Youth Flag Rugby, one of the world’s fastest growing team sports for kids! All players will learn the fundamentals of rugby, emphasizing safety & fun!

Minor Rugby with the OIRC
Our minor program is based upon Rookie Rugby, the nation-wide introductory rugby program for ages 5 to 13 that is a safe, fun, and inclusive non-contact sport to introduce children to rugby. Rookie Rugby is a game-based curriculum built on national guidelines for Health and Physical Education curriculum.
The minor program with the OIRC will have two components:
Co-ed Flag Rugby
The Blues, Irish and Manor Park have worked together to form the Ottawa East Flag Rugby
League. We will continue to play as Irish teams but under the administrative umbrella of
Manor Park Community Council.
Eligibility
There will be co-ed teams for:

U7 (ages 5 to 7)

U9 (ages 8 to 9)

U11 (ages 10 to 11)

U13 (ages 12 to 13)

Practice time and location
Location: Manor Park Sports Fields | 100 Thornwood, Ottawa, ON, K1K 4Y1
Dates: May 3, 2019 – June 21, 2019

U7 and U9 practice Fridays from 6:00 PM to 7:00 PM

U11 and U13 practice Fridays from 6:00 PM to 7:30 PM

What to bring to practice
Players should dress for the weather: shorts, running shoes, and an Irish t-shirt
(provided at beginning of season). Water bottles and sunscreen are also
recommended.
Registration
Registration fees include t-shirt, rugby ball and new this year - rugby shorts! Rugby shorts have Velcro patches sewn in, eliminating the need for flag rugby belts. If you are ready to register, please ensure that you register with the Ottawa Irish (via Manor Park Council site) at: Ottawa Irish Flag Rugby.
*Registration will need to be done prior to April 14th in order to ensure that you will receive shorts, shirt and ball on the first day.

Modified Contact
Players will go through the "transition to contact" program which is designed to introduce contact in a safe and progressive manner. Competitions are primarily played in festival format on weekends.

Practices will be held at Cairine Wilson Secondary School (975 Orléans Blvd,
Orléans, ON K1C 2Z5) Thursday evenings from 6:00-7:30 pm starting May 28th.
