Remembering Francis Curia

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our Ottawa Irish teammate, Francis Curia. Francis passed away suddenly and unexpectedly on Sunday, March 3rd, 2024.

With 15 years of rugby experience, Francis joined the Ottawa Irish in 2021 and made a profound impact on the club's recovery after the pandemic, both as a player and a clubsman.

Having transitioned from the back three to the Irish back row, he was a ferociously hard worker, known for his chase-down tackles and unwavering support in the rucks. But Francis's versatility shone through when the chance arose, with flashes of brilliance reminiscent of his days in the back three.

Beyond his exceptional rugby talent, Francis epitomized the values of the Ottawa Irish. Many newer members remember him as the first to offer a ride, regardless of their acquaintance, often accompanied by a soundtrack of Heavy Metal. His kindness and generosity extended beyond the field, leaving a lasting impact on all who had the privilege of knowing him.

As we reflect on Francis's influence on each of us, let us cherish the memories of his generosity, wisdom, and camaraderie. In his absence, may we honor his legacy by embodying the spirit of unity and inclusion that he brought to our club.

Our thoughts are with Francis's family and loved ones during this difficult time.

The memorial for Francis will be held on March 12th, 2024 at 12:00PM at Barker Funeral Home and Chapel, 19 McArthur Avenue, Carleton Place, Ontario, K7C 2W1, Canada
